In July, GSDC Business Development Corps members had the opportunity to tour Landwehr Dairy and learn about the economic impact of agriculture in the greater St. Cloud region.
Owners Mike, Marlene and Denny Landwehr led a tour of their 1,000+ acre dairy farm and provided an overview of how they utilize new technology to streamline their operations. The group also heard from a panel of presenters who spoke on topics of lending and banking, nutrition and feed, and food processing/exporting in the agriculture industry. Agriculture is an exceedingly significant industry in greater St. Cloud region, leading in livestock production and processing for Minnesota. In fact, 5,000 farms in our region produce nearly $1 billion annual in market value of products sold. Prominent national companies such as GNP and Jennie-O Turkey Store have long been located in the greater St. Cloud region and continue to grow and expand their operations here. Our central location within the state and upper Midwest is a distinct logistical advantage for companies that want to extend their reach into major regional, national and international markets.
GSDC would like to thank AgStar Financial Services for sponsoring the event and the Landwehr family for the chance to tour an active dairy farm operation.
