From the President, Patti Gartland: Parting Is Such Sweet Sorrow.

“Those we love don’t go away, they walk beside us every day.” - Author unknown.

The article I shared in the GSDC Connections e-newsletter for September 2014 was titled “Life’s Greatest Moments”. It offered highlights of one of the greatest moments in my life that had occurred earlier in the year. I had the honor and privilege of accompanying my dad, a World War II veteran, on the Honor Flight to Washington D.C. I shared that as a result of the Honor Flight, I had come to know my dad not only as my personal hero, but as a wartime hero.

My personal hero and the sweetest man I’ve ever known passed away suddenly but peacefully this past month. We celebrated his life in a beautiful service with full military honors on January 25th.

My heart is heavy, but I’m also blessed with a lifetime of great memories that I shall forever cherish. And I am humbled by the outpouring of comforting support from an extensive network of family, friends and colleagues. And it is clear, my thriving Social Wellbeing (having supportive relationships & love in your life; one of the five essential elements of Gallup-Healthways Well-Being 5) has and will continue to sustain me through this very sad and difficult time.

But what about the other four elements of Well-Being? Can I claim high marks for myself in Career Well-Being, Financial Well-Being, Physical Well-Being and Community Well-Being?

I have the answers to those questions because I completed the Healthways Well-Being 5 Health Assessment that was made available to me via the Workplace Well-Being Initiative sponsored by the GSDC, CentraCare Health and St. Cloud State University. I know where my strengths are and where my opportunities for improvement lie.

On February 10th, the aggregate results of Well-Being 5 Assessments completed by 2,181 individuals from 43 organizations in our region will be revealed at the Greater St. Cloud Workplace Well-Being Summit! Join us to learn about the greater St. Cloud region’s well-being strengths and challenges.

If you’re not already registered, I urge you to join me and 400+ others who will be attending the Greater St. Cloud Workplace Well-Being Summit at River’s Edge Convention Center in downtown St. Cloud from 7:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Additional information is in a related article in this newsletter. There is no cost to attend but registration is needed for planning purposes. For ease of registration, use this link: Register Here!

Workplace Well-Being is one of our GSDC strategic initiatives because a region with high and growing employee health and well-being is a region with a competitive advantage in attracting and retaining talent and in creating high-performing organizations.

From the President, Patti Gartland: Now More Than Ever – We Are ‘On The Grow’!

As Winston Churchill so aptly stated, “Christmas is a season not only of rejoicing but of reflection.” So as we reflect on the journey of our organization, not only for the past year, but since our inception, it reveals some cause for rejoicing.

Our region looks and feels different than it did in 2011 (the year GSDC was formed) for one reason: leader engagement. A bold vision can only be realized by people who are willing to contribute time, talent and treasure. Fortunately, such people are engaged in the work of the GSDC and as a result, we are On the Grow! Together. As a community. As a corporation.

So we rejoice and celebrate...
