GSDC welcomed Amelia Barkley to the GSDC team in April 2020 as the Communications and Program Specialist. In her role, Amelia provides daily communications and marketing functions of the GSDC along with project support for GSDC’s Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Justice team.
Amelia interned with the Greater St. Cloud Development Corporation during the summer of 2019 and is excited to be back with the team in her new role. She brings a passion and experience in event planning/organizing, effective communication, and economic development.
Amelia is a central MN native, growing up in Sartell and attending Sartell High School. She is a 2019 graduate of the College of Saint Benedict, receiving a degree in Economics and a minor in Hispanic Studies.
From August 2019 to March 2020, Amelia served as a volunteer in Tepoztlán, Morelos, Mexico as a Young Adult in Global Mission (YAGM) through the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA). During her seven months, Amelia volunteered with an organization focused on human rights for youth. Amelia accompanied youth during weekly community play groups, assisted with workshops, and provided office assistance to the organization’s staff. Amelia lived with a host family and spent her free time playing on two community soccer teams with her host sisters, enjoying delicious food and conversation with her host family, and gathering with her YAGM cohort.
