The Greater St. Cloud Development Corporation (GSDC) and its investors welcome Edmonton Trailers to the greater St. Cloud region.
Edmonton Trailers, a Canada-based manufacturer, has completed renovations on the existing 30,000 square-foot warehouse located at 101 Benton Drive in Sartell ( the building was formerly part of the Verso Paper Mill ) and has begun production. The company specializes in the production and sales of heavy transportation equipment for the trucking industry and will manufacture trailer chassis on site. The new Minnesota facility will allow the company to utilize complementary local vendors, expand their existing product line and enhance service to many of their current customers in the United States.
Casey O’Malley, Commercial Real Estate Broker with GSDC investor INH Commercial Real Estate Services, was instrumental in introducing the greater St. Cloud region to Edmonton Trailers during the site selection process. The company investigated several locations in the Midwest before narrowing their search to a central Minnesota location. O’Malley compliments the working relationship between GSDC and local jurisdictions during the process, acknowledging that “the area cities set aside individual appeals and handled Edmonton Trailers transition as professional as could be, recognizing that their presence [whether it is in St. Cloud, Sauk Rapids, Sartell] would benefit the region as a whole.”
For nearly two years, O’Malley, along with representatives from GSDC, local economic development professionals and MN Department of Employment and Economic Development (DEED), actively assisted the company as it navigated the Minnesota Pollution Control Agency and local zoning boards application processes. According to O’Malley, “No matter the size of the hurdle or challenge, communication and understanding your client’s needs are essential. I feel over time we were able to establish a level of understanding and trust which made it easier to find positive solutions to challenges.”
GSDC investor Boser Construction completed the renovation and build-out of the former warehouse. Boser worked closely with Edmonton to ensure their needs were met during the renovation project.
The company plans to hire up to 60 full-time employees by 2016 and is being supported by $440,000 from the Minnesota Investment Fund. “We’re thrilled to welcome Edmonton Trailer to the Sartell community,” said Dave Gruenes, chair of the GSDC Business Development Corps. “This region is proud to be able to offer the company a strong labor supply, workforce training opportunities, and a supportive business environment.”
