From the President, Patti Gartland: Parting Is Such Sweet Sorrow.

“Those we love don’t go away, they walk beside us every day.” - Author unknown.

The article I shared in the GSDC Connections e-newsletter for September 2014 was titled “Life’s Greatest Moments”. It offered highlights of one of the greatest moments in my life that had occurred earlier in the year. I had the honor and privilege of accompanying my dad, a World War II veteran, on the Honor Flight to Washington D.C. I shared that as a result of the Honor Flight, I had come to know my dad not only as my personal hero, but as a wartime hero.

My personal hero and the sweetest man I’ve ever known passed away suddenly but peacefully this past month. We celebrated his life in a beautiful service with full military honors on January 25th.

My heart is heavy, but I’m also blessed with a lifetime of great memories that I shall forever cherish. And I am humbled by the outpouring of comforting support from an extensive network of family, friends and colleagues. And it is clear, my thriving Social Wellbeing (having supportive relationships & love in your life; one of the five essential elements of Gallup-Healthways Well-Being 5) has and will continue to sustain me through this very sad and difficult time.

But what about the other four elements of Well-Being? Can I claim high marks for myself in Career Well-Being, Financial Well-Being, Physical Well-Being and Community Well-Being?

I have the answers to those questions because I completed the Healthways Well-Being 5 Health Assessment that was made available to me via the Workplace Well-Being Initiative sponsored by the GSDC, CentraCare Health and St. Cloud State University. I know where my strengths are and where my opportunities for improvement lie.

On February 10th, the aggregate results of Well-Being 5 Assessments completed by 2,181 individuals from 43 organizations in our region will be revealed at the Greater St. Cloud Workplace Well-Being Summit! Join us to learn about the greater St. Cloud region’s well-being strengths and challenges.

If you’re not already registered, I urge you to join me and 400+ others who will be attending the Greater St. Cloud Workplace Well-Being Summit at River’s Edge Convention Center in downtown St. Cloud from 7:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Additional information is in a related article in this newsletter. There is no cost to attend but registration is needed for planning purposes. For ease of registration, use this link: Register Here!

Workplace Well-Being is one of our GSDC strategic initiatives because a region with high and growing employee health and well-being is a region with a competitive advantage in attracting and retaining talent and in creating high-performing organizations.
