Greater St. Cloud Development Corporation receives Excellence Award from the International Economic Development Council

Oct. 6, 2021 / ST. CLOUD, Minn.  – The Greater St. Cloud Development Corporation (GSDC) received a Bronze Rank for its GSDC eBriefings electronic newsletters, in the category of Magazine and Newsletter, from the International Economic Development Council (IEDC) during the IEDC’s Annual Conference Oct. 5.

“GSDC investors told us often that our eBriefings helped them identify resources and make critical adjustments to their organizations during this pandemic, so having the International Economic Development Council also notice the value of those frequent communications is doubly gratifying,” said GSDC Board Chair Brian Myres.

IEDC’s Excellence in Economic Development Awards recognize the world’s best economic development programs and partnerships, marketing materials and the year’s most influential leaders. Twenty-five award categories honor organizations and individuals for their efforts in creating positive change in urban, suburban and rural communities. IEDC received over 500 submissions from four countries.

In early 2020, when businesspeople were being overwhelmed by news of executive orders, federal and state mandates, and other challenges, the GSDC published eBriefings on a daily basis for three months to keep its investor organizations apprised of time-sensitive information. The GSDC continues to distribute eBriefings once a week, while always being ready to increase that frequency if new challenges arise.

“Connecting businesses to resources is one of the GSDC’s key strategies in our business expansion and retention work,” said GSDC President Patti Gartland. “We heard time and again that our eBriefings provided clear, accurate and timely information that was of the utmost importance to them.”

Tom Kucharski, 2021 IEDC Board Chair and Invest Buffalo Niagara, President and CEO, said, “The winners of IEDC’s Excellence in Economic Development awards represent the best of economic development and exemplify the leadership that our profession strives for every day. We’re honored to recognize the more than 100 communities whose marketing submissions, projects, and partnerships have improved regional quality of life.”

The GSDC, a non-profit (501c3) organization, is a private collaboration of regional businesses and community leaders within Benton, Sherburne and Stearns counties that leads Greater St. Cloud economic development efforts by engaging leaders, expanding talent, growing business and shaping tomorrow. The GSDC is funded through business investments, public sector contributions, individual contributions and grants, and its actions are governed by the organization’s investors, boards and various committees.  Additional information is at www.GreaterStCloud.com.
