GSDC WELCOMES 3 BOARD MEMBERS, REAPPOINTS 7 AND RECOGNIZES 1

The GSDC Board of Directors is pleased to welcome Clare Richards (Impacks), Ayan Omar (ISD #742) and Reade Sievert (Associated Wholesale Grocers) as new Board members to serve Jan. 1, 2023, through Dec. 31, 2025.

The Board has also reappointed Ron Brandenburg (Quinlivan & Hughes), Michael Faber (Viking Coca-Cola), Mike Markman (Deerwood Bank), Heather Pieper-Olson (College of St. Benedict), Joan Schatz (Park Industries), John Torgerson (Bernick’s) and Robbyn Wacker (St. Cloud State University) for terms that will expire on Dec. 31, 2025.

The GSDC also thanks Founding Board Member and Immediate Past Board Chair Brian Myres for his years of service on the Board, which concluded on Dec. 31, 2022.

 

OUR OWN WILLIE JETT IS NEW MN COMMISSIONER OF EDUCATION

Gov. Tim Walz noticed the same qualities that the Greater St. Cloud community has witnessed for many years: that Willie Jett II is an excellent educator, administrator and leader. Now Willie is the state’s top education leader, as Gov. Walz’s new Commissioner of Education.

We congratulate Willie, a former GSDC Board Member, on this great and well-deserved appointment!

 

DR. MARTIN LUTHER KING, JR. COMMUNITY CELEBRATION JAN. 14-16

 

Returning live January 14-16 is the multi-generational, multicultural Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Community Celebration. It begins with a series of events on Saturday and Sunday prior to the signature Monday event from 7:30 – 10:30 a.m. at River’s Edge Convention Center. Keynote speaker will be author, pastor and public speaker Osheta Moore.

YOU COULD MENTOR A BIG BROTHER OR BIG SISTER IN
CENTRAL MINNESOTA

The Dr. Potter Bigs on Campus program at St. Cloud State has been an important part of Big Brothers Big Sisters of Central Minnesota’s programming for eight years. Now, BBBS is expanding the innovative mentoring program to a second location.

Starting in January, students from Kennedy Community School in St. Joseph have the opportunity to match with Bigs at the College of Saint Benedict and Saint John’s University. BBBS staff is hoping to secure 15 mentors in the first year of the program. If you or anyone you know is interested in being a Big with the Bigs on Campus program at CSB/SJU, please click here.
