NOMINATIONS OPEN FOR GSDC INNOVATION AWARDS;
NEW CATEGORY IS ‘EMPLOYER OF CHOICE’

Nominations for the GSDC’s popular Innovation Awards, entering their 12th year, are now being accepted to recognize originality among for-profit and non-profit organizations located in Benton, Sherburne and Stearns counties.

To date, 57 outstanding organizations have been honored for the difference their creativity makes locally and around the world.

New this year is a category for “Employer of Choice,” to recognize a business that has risen to workforce challenges.

APPLICATIONS BEING ACCEPTED FOR METRO CITIZENS POLICE ACADEMY

If you’re interested in better understanding police training, procedures and philosophy through classroom and hands-on training conducted by area police officers, apply to be part of the 2023 Metro Citizens Police Academy.

For three hours each week over 10 weeks, from Sept. 7 to Nov. 9, training will involve topics that include laws, ethics, investigations, firearms, emergency driving and more.

26TH ANNUAL JUNETEENTH THIS FRIDAY AT LAKE GEORGE

From 3 – 9 p.m. this Friday, June 16, Lake George will be where numerous activities take place, all as part of the 26th Annual Juneteenth celebration in the St. Cloud area.

Juneteenth marks the day when, a month after the American Civil War officially ended, Union soldiers arrived in Galveston, Texas, to enforce the Emancipation Proclamation. It has since grown into a national celebration of emancipation and an annual homage to Black history, community and culture.

 

EMERGING ENTREPRENEUR SHOWCASE & AWARDS EVENT IS JUNE 20

The Initiative Foundation is hosting the first-ever Emerging Entrepreneur Showcase & Awards from 5:30 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, June 20, at The Clearing in Sauk Rapids.

The event will celebrate early-stage entrepreneurs who have launched or grown businesses with support from Initiative Foundation programming and partners in the St. Cloud area, and will feature free food vendor samples and a marketplace with products and services available for purchase.

A PANELIST AT INTERNATIONAL TEXTILE EVENT


Going on right now in Milan, Italy, is ITMA 2023, the largest international exhibition of textile and garment technology.

King Mukherjee, president of GSDC advocate-level investor Global Impex USA and an associate professor of Global Business Leadership at GSDC corporate-level investor College of Saint Benedict/Saint John’s University, is participating as a panel moderator for “Refining, Recycling, Repurposing New Materials for Upscaling and Mass Market Application.”


FLAG DAY FACTS

Tomorrow, June 14, is Flag Day, which commemorates the adoption of the flag of the United States which occurred on June 14, 1777, by a resolution adopted by the Second Continental Congress.

We all know about the red, white and blue, but do you know what the colors mean? According to pbs.org; red stands for hardiness and valor, white symbolizes purity and innocence and blue represents vigilance, perseverance and justice.
